Varför har inte fler bibliotekarier läderbyxor? : texter om bibliotek och bibliotekarier (Paperback) by Christer Hermansson

I was supposed to read The Great Gatsby, inspired by this pod P3 Klassikern, The Great Gatsby but I just couldn't muster the strength for this weekend was hectic and I feel like I might be getting a sore throat. Anyway, I really wanted to gaze on the wonderful untouched land of the American Pilgrims just as the narrator envisions in Gatsby but that will have to be another time. Instead I read a book in swedish Varför har inte fler bibliotekarier läderbyxor? 

Yes, this book deserves a review. It is a collection of chronicles, small texts, written by Christer Hermansson, author and librarian. The book is entertaining, even phenomenal, it manages in its measly 150 pages to capture questions such as: What does it mean to be a man in the profession of librarian in Sweden today, a very female-dominated profession where you generally are not seen or heard. What is the role of men in the library and what is the role of the library today? He was referring to another book when he said that being in the library is like being in a woman, a lust for just enjoying books, the love of books so to speak. One doesn't necessarily need more information in the age of information. At the same time, Hermansson also reflects from a bird's eye view on what it means to be human in a culture that increasingly intensely forbids opposing opinions and leaves little room for those who stand out. The nail that stands out is beaten, it is usually said, Christer's chronicles also reflect his career development, his visions as a man who dares to take up space. It's a tribute to the male librarian in leather pants and I liked it, very much.

The books I read in 2023 so far...

On New Year's Eve 2022 I finished reading Maggie O'Farrell's The Marriage Portrait . A fictive story of Lucrezia Di Cosimo de 'Medici from Florence. She was allegedly poisoned to death by her husband Alfonso in 1560's Medieval Italy. The story was essentially asking the question "How can a woman be free?" Lucre was barely sixteen when she was murdered - the theme of the book much the same as in Handmaid's tale a question that remains to this day, universally unanswered. In a Discord group I participated in the January 2023 read, The Woman in White. The take away from this saga of female heroism and love was ultimately this: death can be a punishment or a reward. There's much to say about the plot and as always in classics many angles to view the story from. For me the group reading experience was rewarding. The Yellow Wallpaper and Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman

My local librarian was so kind to suggest ordering a copy of The Yellow Wallpaper since the previous copy had been misplaced by another library enthusiast presumably, for it would take some kind of foreknowledge of classical literature of the West to become intrigued by a story of a woman locked into an attic room. The library ordered the book and then I received notice of the Macmillan Collector's Library book which i gladly picked up. Macmillan Collectors Library books are petite clothbound books printed in China, small enough to slip into a pocket or to bring along to a day spent in the woods. I currently own more than 20 of these gorgeous books and I ordered the last 4 ones needed to fill my bookshelf, hence completing my series (in case you wondered the once I ordered was: Our man in Havana Graham Greene, For Whom the Bells Toll Heminway, Aeneid by Virgil and The Daughter of Time by Josephine Tey).  But back to the book, well in this edition there are two stories:  The Yel
